Teenagers get a bad reputation in American society, some of it deserved, much of it not. Even just saying you have a teenager will often prompt obligatory “I’m so sorry” condolences from others. Much of this fear is rooted in their growing desire for independence–adults get anxious whenever the young exert a will of their own. But as the stories linked below clearly show, there are also legitimate reasons for concern.

The teenage years can be a tumultuous time as youth leave childhood behind and transition to becoming full-fledged adults. It’s a period filled with upheaval, as teens struggle to find themselves and try out different identities. Teens engage in more risk-taking behavior and experiment with drugs. They’re more susceptible to peer pressure and prone to doing stupid things in a attempt to prove themselves or impress their friends. This can land them in all sorts of precarious predicaments.

Not all teens get the hang of this ‘adulting’ thing right away, and there can be any number of mishaps along the way. This area explores some of the crazy, dangerous, or downright stupid things teenagers do.
