Really Bad Luck
I’m sure you’ve heard the expression: “If I didn’t have bad luck, I’d probably have no luck at all. These cases take that principle to an all new level. No matter how bad your day has been, you might count your blessings after reading about these people’s stories.

Women Run Over by Train…Twice
On a rainy night in 2222, Sarah de Lagarde slipped on a platform at a train station in London, falling between the platform and a train. The departing train severed her right arm. She remained fully conscious, screaming for help, but nobody heard her cries. Five minutes later, another train approached and struck her again, this time running over her right foot. “I remember the noise and the massive black wheels,” she says. The formerly active mother of two suddenly found herself a double amputee. (The Week, Jan.19, 2024, p. 10)

A Two-for-One Attack
Peggy Jones, a woman in Texas, was just trying to mow her lawn when she was assaulted by both a hawk and a snake at the same time. While riding on the mower, a snake fell from the sky, likely dropped by the passing hawk. You know it’s going to be a bad day when snakes are falling from the sky. As she tried to shake off the 4-foot serpent, it coiled around her arm. That’s when the hawk swooped down to try and retrieve its meal, repeatedly stabbing Peggy with its knife-like talons. After the fourth dive attack, the hawk flew off with the snake, leaving poor Peggy covered in blood. She rushed to the ER and told her story to doctors… who proceeded to ask her if she was on drugs. “It was a very bizarre, harrowing experience,” she says. (The Week, 12-29-2023, p. 26) As bad as Peggy’s luck is, it could have been worse: She could have been the snake.
