Attacks from big cats are fairly rare, but they do occasionally happen. When they do, children are usually the targets, since they’re smaller and make for easier prey. Here are some stories involving cougar attacks:

Man kills bobcat who attacks him
In Lyme, Connecticut, a bobcat attacked a man who was leading a youth camp at a state park. He was sleeping when the attack occurred. He and two other adults managed to subdue the animal and kill it. Thankfully, no injuries to children were reported. (USA Today, 7-3-2023, p. 4B)

Cougar attacks 8-year-old girl during camping trip
In Port Angeles, Washington, in early August of 2023, a cougar attacked an 8-year-old child who was camping inside Olympic National Park. Thankfully, the child escaped with only minor injuries.
