It’s one of the first admonishments we received as children: Don’t run with scissors…hold the pointy end down…be careful with scissors. And for good reason: The U.S Product Safety Commission reported that 5,556 children under the age of 10 sought medical treatment for scissor-related injuries in 2010. The good news: 72% of these injuries were to fingers, indicating non-life-threatening cutting mishaps. The bad news: that still leaves well over 1,500 incidents involving more significant eye injuries or stab wounds. How do these childhood scissor accidents and injuries occur? Let’s take a look:
