Moose Attacks 8-year-old Boy

An Alaskan police officer shot and killed a female moose, after it tried to trample an 8-year-old boy. The child was outside playing between houses when the moose appeared and charged, said police spokesman Lt. Paul Honeman. The boy was kicked by the moose, but suffered only minor injuries.
The moose had with her twin calves, whom she had likely given birth to within the past week. The child, the moose, and the calves were cornered between homes in the south Anchorage neighborhood and had no easy way out, according to state biologist Rick Sinnott. The moose was likely trying to protect her young, and perceived the boy as a threat when she charged. However, the boy and other children in the neighborhood did not appear to do anything to provoke the attack, according to police.
