Third-Graders Arrested in Plot to Kill Teacher
4-1-08
Kids grow up so fast these days, don’t they? It seems like in the blink of an eye they’re walking, saying they’re first words, attending their first day of school, conspiring to kill the teacher.
Police in South Georgia arrested nine 3’rd graders, both boys and girls, in an apparent plot to assassinate their teacher. Police describe it as an “elaborate” plan that had apparently been hatched by 3 ringleaders amongst the bunch. The itenery was to knock her unconscious, bind her with handcuffs and duct tape, and then stab her to death. They had gone so far as to farm out specific jobs to other kids in the class, including who would hold her down and who was in charge of cleaning up the blood.
The plot was foiled when a fellow student tipped off school staff about a weapon in one child’s backpack. Upon investigating, police and school officials uncovered handcuffs, duct tape, a paperweight and a broken steak knife, consistent with the alleged plot.
All 9 students have been suspended, but are expected to eventually return to the same school, as it’s the only one in their town. The district attorney says the 3 ringleaders, 2 girls and a boy, were “dead serious” about following through with it. All three face criminal charges. One child has been charged with aggravated assault, and the other two with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
The school says the teacher is fine physically, but is “sad … very sad” over the ordeal. The whole thing apparently started because the teacher had disciplined a student for standing on a chair. Kids these days…
