Every once in a while we come across a story that is just wrong on every level. This happens to be one of those times.

In Birmingham, Alabama, an 8-year-olf boy was arrested on a murder warrant for allegedly beating his one-year-old sister to death while babysitting her and 4 other siblings. Why was an 8-year-old left in charge of 5 young kids, you might ask? So his mother could go to a nightclub, of course.

The boy was the oldest of six kids left alone that night, and reportedly became frustrated when 1-year-old Kelci Devine Lewis wouldn’t stop crying. Police say the 1 year old was “vishiously” beaten to death. The incident actually occured about a month ago, on October 11, 2015. The charges against the boy were just recently brought. The kid’s mother has been charged with manslaughter and authorities are struggling over the ethics of how to prosecute the boy.

“This is by far one of the saddest cases that I have witnessed and been a part of since I became a police officer,” said Birmingham police LT. Sean Edwards during a news conference. It’s also yet another example of a tradgedy arising out of a lack of parental support. While this mother deserves a labatomy for leaving her kids home alone, the reality is that struggling single parents need a break too, and people will always make unwise decisions when they’re desperatly searching for happiness or some sort of escape. People were’nt meant to raise kids alone on an island. Now one child lost their life, and another child had theirs forever ruined, all for lack of a babysitter.
