Chronic Tardiness … The Teacher Version
In New Brunswick, New Jersey, a state arbitrator ruled that an elementary school math teacher who has been chronically late to his job can non the less keep it. Arnold Anderson was reportedly late at least 46 times this past school year, and 65 times the year before, which prompted Roosevelt Elementary School to seek his dismissal. To put this in perspective, a typical school year is no more than 150 days of actual education at most, which means he’s been late at least 1/3 of the time.
I wonder what would happen to a child who was late to class that many times? Hopefully Mr. Anderson can turn himself around and become a more productive employee, and maybe we don’t know the whole story. But this sure seems like another example of union policies keeping teachers with sub-par performances on the staff.
