Mother & Baby Survive Ejection From SUV
In Topeka, Kansas, a woman and her five-month-old daughter managed to survive a car wreck that flung them from their SUV. They were inside the vehicle parked on the shoulder of I-70, when a truck struck the SUV from behind, tossing them from the car.
This woman and her baby were extremely lucky, but you might not be. Highway shoulder accidents such as this are surprisingly common, so let this be a reminder that just because you’re parked alongside the highway, it doesn’t mean your safe. Have kids keep their seat-belts on, and if your going to be stopped for any length of time (say, because of car trouble) you might want to consider the kids getting out of the car and find a spot to sit well off the highway. A number of kids have been killed in these situations because the back seat actually becomes more dangerous. People have a tendency to look toward whatever they see on the side of the road and end up not paying attention, letting their car veer directly towards what they are looking at.
