A Michigan woman was found guilty Wednesday of murder in the deaths of her two young daughters. They were stabbed to death by their mother, Jennifer Kukla, who said that she was hearing the devils voice at the time of the murders.

Police found the bodies of little Alexandra, 8, and her 5-year-old sister Ashley, at their North Detroit home in February. Also discovered at the scene were the mutilated corpses of three dogs and a pet mouse. Police were called to the home by one of Jennifer’s sisters, after she became concerned about the welfare of the children.

In  their  verdict,  the  jury   also found  that  Kukla  was mentally  ill.  Steven  Freers, the  woman’s  defense attorney, told the jury that only insanity could explain her actions. The mother reportedly claimed she was only protecting her girls against an intruder she believed would break into their home, torturing and raping her
children. Not sure how stabbing them to death herself is  protecting them, but she apparently thought it was a good idea at the time. Officers testified that Kukla reported hearing the voice of the devil, who told her to kill her daughters and the family pets.
