Teacher Flees With Student To Mexico

A sixth-grade teacher from a Nebraska middle school was in
hot-water after fleeing to Mexico with a 13-year-old student. Twenty-five-year-old Kelsey Peterson apparently ran off with the boy to live a romantic life with him in his native Mexico. The decision to run for the border was made hastily after police began investigating the pair on roomers that they were having sex.
“They didn’t have a very well-defined plan…it was basically to continue driving into Mexico to hide,” reported Alfredo Arenas of the California State Police. He also stated that “this was a mutual agreement to flee after the story came out that they were having sex.”
The two spent about a week on the lam before being captured in Mexicali on November 2, a border town in Mexico. Police were led there after the boy called home asking for money. Kelsey was nearly broke when the police picked her up. The former math teacher and basketball coach at Lexington Middle School now faces numerous charges, including kid-napping and transporting a minor across state lines for sex. In an ironic twist, it turns out that her student lover and his family are illegal immigrants to the U.S. The boy remained in Mexico with relatives, and may not be allowed back into the country.
