Chihuahua Saves Toddler From Rattlesnake
July 2007
It ain’t the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog. At least that seems to be the case with Zoey, a five-pound
Chihuahua, who sprang into action when a rattlesnake threatened her owners 1-year-old grandson.
Little Booker West was having fun at Grammy and Grandpa’s
house in Masonville, Colorado. He was blissfully splashing his hands in a backyard birdbath, when the snake slithered up to the toddler, rattled, and struck. Zoey jumped in front of the child and took the bites.
“She got in between Booker and the snake, and that’s when I heard her yipe,” said Monty Long, the boys grandfather. The toddler was not injured.
“These little bitty dogs, they just don’t really get credit,” said
Bookers Grandma, Denise Long, in an interview with the Loveland Daily Reporter. As for the dog Zoey, she was taken to a veterinarian center for treatment, and it appeared for a time that
she might not make it. But she pulled through, and now prances
about good as new, according to her family.
