Many cases of child abuse occur when frustrated parents handle a baby roughly or otherwise loose their temper, or simply act recklessly around infants. Here are some of the stories:

Cases of Infant Child Abuse

  • In Lincoln, Nebraska, a 10-year-old mother was given 225 days in jail for breaking one of her infant son’s legs while changing his diaper. She pleaded no contest to assault and neglect child abuse, both misdemeanors. According to court records, the mother told police that she had forcefully flipped her son over to control him. (November 18, 2010)

 

Failing to learn your lesson
In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a man who had already served 9 years in prison for previously abusing his infant son was sentenced to life without parole for killing his infant daughter. Thirty-eight-year-old Willis Lambert pleaded guilty to 1st degree murder in the death of 6 month old Rachael Lambert. According to court documents, Lambert admitted violently shaking the girl. (April 1, 2010)

Death by washing machine
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, 26-year-old Lyndsey Fiddler, was charged with abuse after her 10 day old daughter was found dead inside the washing machine. Fiddler was investigated six times, including once on the day of the girl’s death. The state department of human services made a finding of no abuse or neglect of her older children despite noting that there were signs of drug abuse. Fiddlers daughter, Maggie May Trammel, died on November 4th. (December 2010)
